The Ultimate Pairing: TPC Danzante Bay and Fishing in The Sea of Cortez
We love talking about the great golf experience at our TPC Danzante Bay course. But visitors coming to see us in this ideal, year-round climate have other ways to enjoy the great outdoors, including hiking, snorkeling, and especially fishing.
This part of the Baja Peninsula has long been a magnet for world-class sport fishing, with a rich history of world-record catches. Danzante Bay and the Sea of Cortez are famed for their marine life and since the Loreto fishing scene is open 365 days a year, there’s never a bad time to come and visit.
In the summer months, the waters are loaded with snapper, grouper, dorado, marlin, sailfish, and tuna. During the fall, seabass, rooster, snapper, and tuna are more prevalent. Yellow tail are prevalent in winter and early spring.
On land, you can enjoy snapper and seabass in light, flaky filets and tacos. But both species put up a fight in the water. Most fishing charter companies can recommend local restaurants where your fresh catch will be prepared for you.
The “malecón,” or wharf area, of Loreto is home base for several day-cruise operators as well as fishing and whale-watching expeditions. You may see manta rays and dolphins, as well. Resort guests can make reservations through our guest activities staff and board a fishing boat from our beach.
Playing TPC Danzante Bay is just as exciting as chasing the big game fish. And you’ll have dazzling views of the local waters from 13 of the 18 holes. You may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of migrating whales, playful rays, and plenty of boats.
But don’t let your mind wander too much. Especially when you get to the spectacular par-3 17h hole, which plays dramatically downhill over the cliffs to a sliver of green surrounded by sand and backdropped by the Sea of Cortez.
You’ll quickly understand why the Rees Jones-designed TPC Danzante Bay has garnered an ocean full of awards and accolades: Golf Digest Editor’s Choice Award for Best Resorts Mexico/Central America 2019-2021; Golf Magazine Top 100 Golf Resort for Buddies; Elite Traveler and 2020 Top Luxury Hotel Golf Courses in the World; and Mexico’s Best Golf Course in 2019 and 2020, and as Latin America’s Best Golf Course in 2019 in the World Golf Awards.
Whether you’re fishing or playing golf at TPC Danzante Bay, you’ll be hooked!
